Weekly roundup – catch up

06/11/2022 by Tom Payne

We have had a busy few weeks over the end of October and begining of November. Here is a brief catch-up of what we have been up to.

October 23 – Abbingdon Marathon. We had 3 runners at this popular Autumn marathon, all hoping for sub-3 hours. Nick S finished in 2:55, Greg finished 2:57 and George finished 3:02. Fantastic results all round.

October 27 – We had our Halloween Hills run, starting at Holford and heading out to Derad Woman’s Ditch. There were over 300m of elevation to contend with, over a course that was slightly more than 10k. We had some steep ups, and steep downs. And lots of mud! We were joined by members from Weston AC, Burnham Harriers, and 1 from Hydrographic Harriers. Hopefully we can do more of these ‘get togethers’ and get more clubs involved. Following the run we stayed in Holford at The Plough and had some drinks and some of us had food. Good evening!

October 31 – Herepath Half. A popular local mixed terrain event, were we had 2 members taking part. Tom OK did fantastically finishing in 20th place, in a time of 1:46 – while Nick H also did fanstatic finishing 2nd in his age group, in just over 2hrs.

November 1 – The first of our monthly trail runs. Starting from Fyne Court, we headed out towards Cothelstone on a new route. 330m elevation over 9km, it was a great route enjoyed by all who came along. There was of course plenty of mud.

November 3 – This was supposed to be the rescheduled Prom Run from October, but it was cancelled/postponed again. So instead we did a 5k tempo run through town, we all warmed up together for a mile or so and then each did our own tempo pace, meeting at the end and doing the mile back together. There was also a ‘returners’ group who walk/ran on their return to club nights.
