Club run weekly update
We had 2 club runs starting from Steart Marshes this week, both from the main car park rather than our usual start at the bus stop. On Tuesday, Iain led a training session, plus there was the normal easy pace trail run of about 8km, and a ‘returner’ group doing around 5km. For Iain’s training run, it was an interval session with 1 mile warm-up, 8x 1min zone 5, 2min recovery, with a final mile or so cool down. Hard work in the heat.
On Thursday, there was another training session – this time led by Nick P. There was also a returners walk/run session of about 5k. Nick’s training run was a tempo workout, 1 mile warm-up, then 3 miles tempo, plus another mile cool down. Again, hard work in the heat! Well done to everyone who came along.
On Thursday, after the run we also had a social at The Anchor – pizza and a pint.

Next week there are runs from YMCA on Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th. Martin P has posted a few route suggestions, including the ‘normla’ 8km, a trail option that goes through The Meads, and a 5km route. There will also be a trail ‘away day’ option on Tuesday from Nether Stowey – see Facebook for details, or ask any of the trail guys.
Races
I missed a runner from last weeks round up. Becky did the Westonbirt Half. She said “it’s a gorgeous easy ‘trail’ one to do with just afew gentle hills & beautiful scenery”. Becky finished in 1:54 (a new PB!!) and came 220 out of 460, and 29th in her age group.
This week new member Tom O’Keeffe took part in the Barnstaple 10K in North Devon. He finished in 44:04 on a very hot day. Great effort.
