Weekly roundup – 26 June

26/06/2022 by Tom Payne

Here is our first weekly roundup of races and club runs. We started the club week on Tuesday, with 2 groups. We had a trail group on the Quantocks, featuring some steep downs and tough climbs. Another group were running from Eddington through the moors around Shapwick. The Thursday group also ran from Eddington. To see our up-coming club runs, take a look at our Summer Schedule.

On Wednesday Iain C took part in the Devon 10,000m track race, finishing in great time of 37:21. Thats 25 laps!

Nick H ventured all the way to the Black Mountains in the eastern part of the Brecon Beacons in south Wales. He took on a ‘mini Ultra’ by Trail Events Co in the form of the Black Mountains Trail Running Challenge, 47km (29 miles) with an amazing 1947m elevation! Not one for the faint hearted. He finished the very tough course in just over 7h15.

Black Mountains elevation profile

Nick S and Martin D both did White Star Running’s Giants Head Marathon in Dorset, whilst Wayne did the Giants Head Half. Nick managed a top-10 finish, crossing the line in 9th place (out of 382) in a time of 3h52. The course had almost 1000m of elevation so pretty tough going. Martin D finished in 5h45. Both did fantastically. Looks like Wayne got a very big, some might say ‘giant’ medal.

Now for the final part of this weeks weekly roundup. On Sunday we had Ben C taking on the North Devon Half Marathon – a tough coastal trail half marathon starting at Woolacombe and following the coastpath through to Croyde and back. Ben finished 12th overall (out of over 300 runners), in a time of 1:41:03.
